Descriptive info: The Teens' Midwife.. RTÉ ONE.. A two part observational documentary series depicting the work of Una O Brien, Ireland s first Clinical Midwife Specialist in Teenage Pregnancy based at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.. The series featured a number of young parents-to-be as Una prepares them for the birth of their babies.. Broadcast on RTE 1 in March 2013.. Bullyproof.. IFTA Award winner 2013.. In this 3 part series for RTE Education, Clinical Psychologist, David Coleman explored the issue of teenage bullying in Ireland.. A key element of this series saw David providing his therapeutic support to a number of teens and pre-teens, (and their families), who have been affected by bullying.. In Programme 1, David met with three youngsters who have suffered at the hands of bullies and began the process of helping them rebuild their shattered self-esteem.. Jade (13) was regularly taunted, isolated and pushed around by other children when she was younger.. Like many others, she has found it difficult to let go of the hurt and frustration over what happened.. Hazel (14) was first bullied when she was 8 and even though she sought help at the time, the bullying just seemed to get worse.. Even though the bullying has now stopped, Hazel has developed ways of coping with thelegacy of what happened in ways which are ultimately self-destructive.. Having spent a year abroad, Eamonn (10) and his mum Sandra returned to Ireland while dad Jim remained working abroad.. When Eamonn became the target of bullying in his new school, the family began to question whether they had made the right choice.. For all three, the trauma of being the targets of bullies has had a dramatic effect on their lives and David s aim was to help them try to move beyond this negative experience because the scars of bullying often last long into adulthood if they are not tackled and confronted.. In this series, David also wanted to explode people's sense of powerlessness when they are faced with a bullying situation because bullying is something that can be tackled, prevented and overcome.. To highlight some of the positives, David met Mark Feehily of Westlife at the launch of the ISPCC s shield campaign.. Mark talks about the impact of bullying on him during his schooldays and offers living proof that this kind of childhood experience can be overcome.. David also visited Colaiste Eanna, a Dublin secondary school, that responded to the shock of one student leaving the school because of bullying by developing a sophisticated but highly effective anti bullying programme that allows students who have witnessed bullying behaviour to report it in a safe and confidential way and helps resolve the problem without demonizing the perpetrator.. It is a system that is now being copied by other schools.. DIY Brides.. In this six part series Wedding Designer extraordinaire Peter Kelly, a.. k.. a.. Franc took on the role of mentor.. With a host of ingenious ideas, he taught six bridal couples on a very tight budget the many tricks of his trade so that they could each produce their own unique wedding themselves without breaking the bank.. As they endeavoured to put into practice all that they learn from Franc, the couples enlisted the help of friends, neighbours and relatives to help pull off their dream wedding.. Broadcast on RTE 1 in May 2012.. FAMILIES IN THE WILD.. Families in the Wild sees clinical psychologist, David Coleman taking three individual.. families,.. who are feeling the stresses and pressures of family life, away  ...   as well as negative and permeates almost everything in our lives.. We explore the uncomfortable truth about the positive influence the British Empire has had on us - whether we like it or not!.. Broadcast on RTE 1 in May 2011.. Teens in the Wild (series 1).. An observational documentary series broadcast on RTÉ One where 6 -8 rebellious teenage boys were sent by their overwrought parents to a 'camp' in the Connemara wilderness for 3 weeks.. The series was guided presented by clinical psychologist, David Coleman who devised an activities wilderness-based programme, in collaboration with a hand picked team of instructors from the Delphi Adventure centre.. The boy s issues ranged from binge drinking, to dabbling with drugs, to truancy from school, to anger management.. David also worked with the teens parents to explore what possible reasons may lie at the root of their child s misbehaviour and to give them an insight into how their children's issues will be addressed within the camp experience.. Programmes 1-3 in the series followed the experiences of the teenagers at close quarters for the duration of their 3-week stay in the West.. The final programme saw David Coleman revisit each of the six families at home three months later to assess how the experience has impacted on everyone involved.. The fundamental idea behind this unique project was that the emphasis was always on building the boys up, not breaking them down because poor behaviour often stems from low self-esteem.. By putting the teens into basic accommodation in an isolated environment, and by removing all 'must have' accessories, they had the opportunity to get a break from home and to gain the skills needed to make some positive change in their lives.. TV Now award nominee 2009.. Teens in the Wild (series 2).. Celtic Media Award winner.. In the second series of the acclaimed Teens in the Wild, broadcast on RTÉ One, Clinical psychologist David Coleman takes a group of six troubled teenage girls, on a 21 day wilderness activities and therapy course.. This time, in the wilds of Donegal, he worked with girls, aged 14-17, who were struggling with issues including anger management, bereavement, separation and problems at school - all of which had resulted in strained relations with their parents who are at breaking point.. For the three weeks, the girls lived in an isolated cabin (under the supervision of the Gartan OEC instructors) on the perimeter of Glenveagh National Park.. Far removed from the usual teenage temptations and distractions, David's hope being that the girls focus on their issues and work through them with him, giving each of them the opportunity to start making some positive change in their lives.. During the three-week course, David invited the parents to a separate wilderness location in Donegal to explore with him, what possible reasons may lie at the root of their teen's misbehaviour.. These intense 'sessions' also helped the parents to realise that they too need to be open to change.. TV Now Award nominee 2010.. The Greatest Irish Sportsperson Ever!.. A one-hour television special broadcast on New Years Eve, 2009 on RTÉ One.. The programme counted down the.. TOP 10 Irish Sportspeople,.. as voted by the Irish public and featured interviews with many of the nominated sportspeople along with their family, friends and coaches as well as a prestigious line up of sports commentators and journalists.. Presented by.. Aidan Power.. , the programme also featured classic archive images of the Top 10 sportspeople and the most memorable moments of their careers..
